20 Teves – Rambam1 min read
20 Teves is the yahrtzeit of the Rambam, Rav Moshe ben Maimon zy”a. It is recorded that a wagon carrying the Rambam’s body miraculously brought him to Teveria from his home in Egypt.
The Rambam passed away on the Monday of Parshas Shemos, the parsha where Moshe is born and the first time the name of the Rambam, Moshe, is mentioned.
It is possible to suggest that the Rambam is alluded to in the first pasuk of Shemos: ואלה שמות בני ישראל הבאים מצרימה את יעקב איש וביתו באו.
The first letters of ואלה שמות בני ישראל הבאים מצרימה את יעקב, are equal in gematriya to הרמב״ם זי״ע.
The words הבאים מצרימה allude to his being in Egypt, and the word במצרים contains the first letters of ימי צדיק רבי משה בן מימון.
The last verse of Shemos states: ויאמר יקוק אל משה עתה תראה אשר אעשה לפרעה כי ביד חזקה ישלחם וביד חזקה יגרשם מארצו.
Hashem is addressing “Moshe,” and יד חזקה may be seen as an allusion to the Rambam’s monumental work, known as Mishneh Torah or Yad Hachazaka.
