24 Teves is the yahrtzeit of the first Rebbe of Chabad, Reb Shneur Zalman (ben Baruch) zy”a, known as the “Alter Rebbe” or “Baal Hatanya”. He was niftar on the first day of the week of Va’era 5573.

This tzaddik was a disciple of the Mezritcher Maggid, the Baal Shem Tov’s successor. As such, he called himself the spiritual grandson of the Baal Shem Tov. Based on this, we may suggest that his name is alluded to in the words וארא אל אברהם אל יצחק ואל יעקב בקל שקי  which cover three generations, and, with the nine words, equal רבי שניאור זלמן בן ברוך זי״ע with the words and letters.

Fascinatingly, the tzaddik’s name, רבי שניאור זלמן בן ברוך זי״ע, is equal in gematriya to the date of his passing, יום א׳ וארא כ״ד טבת תקע״ג.

רב שניאור זלמן בן רבקה ז״ל is equal to וארא אל אברהם אל יצחק ואל יעקב בקל שקי.

The letters of חב״ד spelled out, חית בית דלת, are equal to רב שניאור זלמן בן ברוך זיע״א.

The words דור לדור ישבח מעשיך are equal to 1211, the same gematria as שניאור זלמן ב״ר ברוך זי״ע. The value of the words דור לדור ישבח is 770, perhaps alluding to this that the Alter Rebbe’s מעשיך (his teachings) would be praised and learned for generations by way of the seventh generation Rebbe, whose spiritual headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway enabled the teaching of the Baal HaTanya to become more widespread than ever before.

19 Kislev 5559 is the day Reb Schneur Zalman of Liadi was released from prison after being held on false charges. It is no coincidence that the name שניאור זלמן is equal in gematriya to י״ט כסלו תקנ״ט, the exact date he was released.

Zechuso yagein aleinu!
